How to Cancel Linear - Step by Step Guide

Before You Cancel Linear

Three things to check before you start the Linear cancellation process.

  1. Review the free plan limits. The Linear free plan supports up to 250 issues per team and up to 10 team members. If your team has more than 250 open issues or more than 10 members, you will need to archive issues or reduce the team before or after downgrading.
  2. Export your project data if needed. Linear allows you to export your issues and projects as CSV files. Go to Settings > Export to download your issue data before downgrading.
  3. Workspace admins manage billing. Only Linear workspace admins can access billing settings and change the subscription plan.

Frequently Asked Questions

What happens to my Linear issues and projects when I cancel?

All issues, cycles, projects, and roadmaps are preserved when you downgrade to free. However, if your team has more than 250 open issues, you will be over the free plan limit. Linear will prompt you to archive issues to get back under the limit. Archived issues are not deleted and can be restored by re-subscribing.

Does Linear offer refunds when you cancel?

Linear does not offer prorated refunds on annual plans. Your paid plan continues until the subscription end date. Monthly plans stop renewing at the end of the current billing period. Contact Linear support for billing disputes.

What does the Linear free plan include?

The Linear free plan includes up to 250 issues per team, up to 10 members, unlimited projects and cycles, issue tracking, GitHub and GitLab integration, and the full Linear interface. It does not include roadmaps, unlimited issue history, API rate limits of paid plans, priority support, or unlimited team members.

Is Linear free suitable for a small startup team?

Yes. For a team under 10 people with fewer than 250 active issues at any time, the Linear free plan covers the core issue tracking workflow well. Many small engineering teams use Linear free effectively for sprint planning, bug tracking, and feature development. The 250-issue limit is per team, and issues can be archived when completed to stay within the limit.
