How to Cancel Zoom - Step by Step Guide

Before You Cancel Zoom

Three things to handle before you start the cancellation process.

  1. Download your cloud recordings. Cloud recordings are permanently deleted 30 days after your paid subscription ends. If you have any recordings stored in Zoom cloud storage that you need to keep, download them now. Go to zoom.us, click "Recordings" in the left navigation, and save each one locally before cancelling.
  2. Confirm you are the account owner. Only account owners can cancel a Zoom subscription. Account admins - even those with full admin privileges - cannot access the billing cancellation option. If you are an admin and not the owner, contact the account owner to complete the cancellation.
  3. Consider downgrading instead of cancelling. If you mainly want to reduce costs rather than stop using Zoom altogether, a downgrade to a lower paid tier may be a better option. Zoom Pro is significantly cheaper than Business or Enterprise and still removes the 40-minute meeting limit. Compare the options in Billing - Current Plans before deciding.

How to Cancel Zoom - Step by Step

These steps apply to Zoom Pro, Business, Business Plus, and Enterprise plans. The cancellation is done through the Zoom web portal at zoom.us - you cannot cancel from the Zoom desktop or mobile app.

  1. 1
Sign in at zoom.us as the account owner

Go to zoom.us and sign in with the account owner credentials. Only account owners have access to billing and cancellation settings.

  2. 2
Go to Account Management, then Account Profile

In the left-hand navigation of the Zoom web portal, click "Account Management," then select "Account Profile" to access your account settings.

  3. 3
    Click Billing, then Current Plans

From Account Management, click "Billing" in the left navigation. Then click the "Current Plans" tab to see your active Zoom subscription, renewal date, and pricing.

  4. 4
    Click Cancel plan

Click "Cancel plan" next to your current subscription. Zoom may offer you a discounted rate or suggest a downgrade at this point. You can accept or decline and continue with the cancellation.

  5. 5
    Select a cancellation reason

Zoom requires you to select a reason for cancelling from a dropdown list before proceeding. Choose the most relevant option and click Continue.

  6. 6
    Confirm the cancellation

Confirm the cancellation. Your paid features remain active until the end of the current billing period. After that, your account automatically reverts to the free Basic plan. You will receive a cancellation confirmation email from Zoom.

Frequently Asked Questions

What happens to my Zoom account after I cancel - do I still get a free plan?

Yes. After cancelling, your account automatically reverts to the free Zoom Basic plan. You can still host unlimited 1-on-1 meetings with no time limit. For group meetings with 3 or more participants, the free plan has a 40-minute limit per session. Your contacts, settings, and account history are preserved.

What happens to my Zoom cloud recordings after cancellation?

Cloud recordings are deleted 30 days after your paid subscription ends. The free plan does not include cloud recording storage, so any recordings in the cloud will be permanently removed after the 30-day window. Download everything you need before or immediately after cancelling - go to zoom.us and click "Recordings" in the left navigation to access and download your files.

Can I get a refund when I cancel Zoom?

Zoom offers refunds within 30 days of an initial purchase or annual renewal if unused months remain on the plan. After 30 days, refunds are generally not available. To request a refund, contact Zoom billing support directly. Refunds are reviewed case by case and are not automatically issued on cancellation.

Can I downgrade Zoom instead of fully cancelling?

Yes. If you want to reduce your Zoom cost without losing paid features entirely, you can downgrade from a higher tier to Zoom Pro. Pro removes the 40-minute group meeting limit at a significantly lower price than Business or Enterprise. Go to Billing - Current Plans and click "Change plan" to see your downgrade options. This is often a better choice than cancelling if your team still uses video calls regularly.
