How to Cancel Your Squarespace Subscription
A clear guide to cancelling your Squarespace website or store plan - what happens to your domain, your content, and your ecommerce data when the subscription ends.
Before You Cancel Squarespace
Three things to check before you start the Squarespace cancellation process.
- Export your site content and store data. Squarespace allows you to export your blog posts as XML and your store orders and products as CSV from the Commerce section. Do this before cancelling as exported content cannot be retrieved after the subscription ends.
- Manage your custom domain separately. If you registered your domain through Squarespace, you own it and it will not be cancelled with your website subscription. Transfer your domain to another registrar or let it remain with Squarespace (it will still be billed separately) before cancelling your site plan.
- Cancelling removes your site from the web immediately after the billing period ends. Unlike some platforms, Squarespace does not give you continued read access after cancellation. Your site goes offline at the end of the billing period.

These steps apply to all Squarespace website plans (Personal, Business, Commerce Basic, Commerce Advanced). The process is done through account.squarespace.com - not through the site editor.

What About Your Other Subscriptions?
Cancelling Squarespace is a good moment to review your full SaaS stack. Most teams discover 2-4 subscriptions they had forgotten about once they do a proper audit. CostLoop is a free subscription tracker that gives you one dashboard for every tool you pay for - renewal dates, costs, owners, and cancellation links all in one place. Free plan tracks up to 5 subscriptions, no credit card required.

What happens to my Squarespace website content when I cancel?
Your site goes offline at the end of your billing period. All page content, images, and blog posts become inaccessible to the public and to you. Squarespace retains your data for a period after cancellation (typically 30 days) and you may be able to re-enable the site by re-subscribing during that window, but this is not guaranteed. Export your content before cancelling.
What happens to my Squarespace domain if I cancel?
Domains registered through Squarespace are billed separately from the website subscription. Cancelling your website plan does not cancel your domain. The domain remains registered to you and billed annually. You can transfer it to another registrar if you want to move it away from Squarespace. Keep the domain active if you plan to rebuild your site elsewhere.
Does Squarespace offer refunds when you cancel?
Squarespace offers a 14-day refund window for annual website plans, counted from the original purchase or renewal date. If you cancel within 14 days of being charged, you can request a full refund. After 14 days, no prorated refund is issued. Monthly plans are not refunded but stop renewing after cancellation.
Can I keep my Squarespace site on a cheaper plan instead of cancelling?
Yes. Squarespace offers multiple tiers (Personal, Business, Commerce Basic, Commerce Advanced). If the cost is the issue, consider downgrading to the Personal plan rather than cancelling entirely. This keeps your site live and your content intact at a lower price point while removing ecommerce and some advanced features.
Keep Track of Every Subscription You Still Pay For
After cancelling Squarespace, make sure you know exactly what else is renewing and when. CostLoop shows you all your subscriptions, their costs, and upcoming renewal dates in one simple dashboard.
